Storytelling
The range here is wider than it looks. A volleyball final and a newborn asleep on a sofa want opposite things from a photographer.
One is pure reaction. The frame exists for about a tenth of a second, nobody is going to play the point again, and either the camera was in the right place or it was not.
The other is patience — staying out of the way long enough that the room forgets there is a camera in it at all.
Weddings sit between the two. There is a schedule, and then there is everything happening around the edges of it, which is usually where the day actually is.
The instinct for that came from Kerala: village festivals and church celebrations, where nothing pauses for the person holding the camera. It works the same way in Plymouth.
What is being aimed at in all of it is one thing — the picture should look like the day felt.
